Mood: Mellow

Listening to: Don’t Know Why by Norah Jones

It’s about to rain.

A prelude to a storm.

The wind is howling, rustling branches on the trees and scattering fallen leaves all over the pavement.

It’s an eerie sensation…

*****

Tuesday night.

3 more days till the weekend.

Another hectic day at the office.

There’s nothing that eases the senses from the gloom and doom of an impending storm like hot chicken soup.

And a glass of Oxford Landing.

I love wine.

I love Merlot.

*****

I’m enjoying watching the first season of Secret Diary of a Call Girl.

Very intriguing and sensual, I can’t recall the last time I’d seen so much nudity in a television series.

But that’s not the appeal factor.

Based on the blog of Belle de Jour, it’s actually quite witty and intellectual…just like a British drama should be.

A storm, chicken soup, wine and clandestine call girl – what an exciting Tuesday evening…

Yesterday I was in the doldrums.

Today I’m feeling better.

The antidote for my ailment was a combination of many things, namely…

Comfort Foods

I love eating dumplings.

Ever since I’ve tried the real authentic dumplings in Taiwan and Shanghai many years ago, I’ve been hooked on them ever since.

When I don’t have much appetite for food, I turn to dumplings.

I mentioned before that I’m addicted to dark chocolates.

They make me happy, even in the darkest moments of my life when all hope is lost and I find myself all alone and small in this big and unforgiving world.

Crackers and pandan kaya.

Yes, I never grow out of some of my childhood loves…

Television

Watching tv helps alleviate my focus from doing too much pondering.

The idiot box keeps me sane at times when I think I’m losing it.

Football

Last but not least, my beloved England football team won last night.

When they win, I’m happy…

*****

After binging on comfort food and slacking on the couch last night, I’ve decided to do the same again tonight.

I know I’ll regret it but tomorrow’s another day.

Breaking out of a strict regimen of diet and workout can be invigorating.

After all, life is short, gotta live it sometimes…

Mood: Tranquil

Listening to: 月 亮 代 表 我 的 心 (Yue Liang Dai Biao Wo De Xin) by Teresa Teng

Mid Autumn Festival.

Also known as Moon Cake Festival.

One of my favourite events of the year in the Chinese calendar, it’s a time to enjoy delicious moon cakes and light up lanterns.

Contrary to many people’s perception that moon cakes are too sweet, unhealthy and the like, I’m not bothered at all. If you exercise hard enough, you shouldn’t have to worry about calories.

I love moon cakes.

*****

I bought a box of moon cakes from Sunnybank today.

There are so many brands on display, ranging from the expensive to the more affordable.

The famous Wing Wah brand was a tad pricey so I bought the mid-range ones…

Sipping tea and savouring moon cakes while watching the TVB drama, Moonlight Resonance.

Asian style cuppa, just the way I like it.

*****

The Australian Weather Bureau is forecasting fine weather tonight.

I think I might just pull out a deck chair, hang out at my back yard and gaze at the moon.

The perfect complement would be to play the soothing tunes of 战 台 风 on the (Gu Zheng) while hoping that a beautiful maiden would suddenly fly down into my arms, just like in the wuxia films.

Unfortunately, I’m not in one and I can’t play it either. Even if I tried, I’d only attract wild possums from the trees.

Definitely need some professional lessons from eiling.

Starlight, star bright.

Complementing the moonlight.

Resonating through the night.

Such joy to behold a wondrous sight.

我 就 是 喜 欢 看 月 亮 …

Note: Coming from an English background, learning writing and reading chinese characters by myself and without the help of a tutor is really challenging. Speaking Mandarin and Cantonese is at least easier, thanks to Hong Kong’s TVB and Taiwan’s TTV.

Mood: Lazy but happy

Listening to: Hands of Time by Groove Armada

There are times when I feel really, really lazy.

Like right now.

Was supposed to do some grocery on the way back but was feeling so tired, I decided to skip that and just head on home…to the comfort of my soft, fluffy couch…the privacy of my humble but reassuring abode where I can strut around in the glorious splendour of my birthday suit…letting my hair down and skin breathe…resuming my passion for reading and devouring fresh strawberries…

*****

Whenever I feel so lazy and tired that I sometimes (intentionally) forget to stock up on my groceries like meat and vegetables, I turn to these lifesavers…

I heart Spam. In fact, I heart canned luncheon meat. They’re easy to slice and dice, mix and match – just like my jeans, they go with anything – and taste great.

There’s no need to defrost, wash and clean – just pop open the can and slash away.

Although Spam may not taste as heavenly as the China brand, Ma Ling, at least the Lite version comes with 50% less fat.

The same goes for frozen mixed vegetables, with pre-packed freshness sealed to last longer.

There’s no need to peel or cut them up – just pop open the pack and pour ‘em on the wok.

Too easy. No dramas.

Whether I’m making fried rice or noodles, soup or stew, or whether I’m frying or grilling or steaming, Spam and frozen vegetables are truly magnificent…

*****

I love curry.

Love to eat ‘em, love to cook ‘em.

It’s probably one of the easiest dishes to cook, only if I use instant paste/powder and pre-packed coconut milk.

As a single working professional living alone, who slogs at the office 8 to 5 Mon through Fri, and who doesn’t have time to find a “free personal assistant” or afford a domestic helper, I don’t always have the luxury of time to leisurely prepare fresh ingredients to make proper, authentic curry the way mum does it back home. Heck, I don’t even have time to scour for those ingredients in that little Indian spice shop in Chinatown.

I need it quick and simple, fast and furious – 5 minutes to prepare, 15 minutes to cook. Wham bam, thank you ma’am.

Which is why I’m grateful for brands like Ayam and A1, among many others in the market.

*****

I’m so happy.

I’m happy because the BPL team I support has finalised the deal right on the wire when the transfer window closed yesterday.

My beloved Manchester United has finally brought Dimitar Berbatov to Old Trafford!

Eat your heart out, Man City who tried to sabotage the deal.

And here’s to Treble honours once again this season, at the expense of Chelsea (sorry, eiling), Liverpool (sorry, KpgNangkaBoy), and Arsenal (sorry, Sisuahlai).

So happy… :D

Mood: Jovial

Listening to: Australian Idol on Channel Ten HD

I overdosed on chocolates today.

Haven’t had chocolates for months because I try to eat healthy, keyword being TRY…

But I suddenly had cravings for it after seeing eiling’s beautiful chocolates. I had turned into the dark side, quite literally…

I heart dark chocolates. There’s something mysterious about its taste compared to regular and white chocolates.

Savouring such heavenly delight by slowly melting it into rich and thick nectar in my mouth brings pure joy and ecstasy.

It’s true what they say – chocolate does make one happy.

And maybe a little sexy too…
